When the agents become the vendors.
Steve and Nila, alongside architect Megan Edwards, had originally designed 33 Market Road to be their forever home. When a house they had always admired suddenly became available, they decided to sell up, and found themselves on the other side of the advice they were giving their clients every day.
Set into the side of Mount Hobson, it took two years to build and was finished just before they sold. Cedar ceilings, volcanic stone and what Steve called “the Hollywood Hills view”.

What we thought was beautiful.
“I was really worried that what we thought was beautiful wouldn’t be appreciated by anyone else.”
“I thought people might not ‘click with it’ quite as much as we did.”

The first call.
The first person to call understood the house immediately. An American executive newly arrived in New Zealand, he compared it to a hill home in LA and wanted to see it straight away.
Their fears were unfounded.
A pre-auction offer during the first week gave Steve and Nila confidence that the home had found its audience, but they chose not to accept it, trusting the campaign to find the competition the home deserved. Eleven bidders came to the auction and emotions ran high.

The result.

For Steve and Nila, being vendors changed their understanding of the trust an owner places in an agent.
Nila came away believing even more strongly in treating every seller and buyer with care and kindness.
Steve came away with a greater sense of responsibility for the trust placed in him.

$10,010,000
Remuera
The highest residential auction price in New Zealand in 2025.
OneRoof, 5 December 2025
A landmark result on one of Remuera’s most admired streets. Fifteen qualified buyers came through the campaign, and on auction day two of them bid. When the bidding stalled, the auctioneer suggested a nudge past $10 million, and the hammer fell at $10,010,000. A binary bid, he called it: only ones and zeros.
